Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
★★★½
overall, the leads are at the top of their game. Sam Raimi does a very stylized version of the horror / comedy style he did in Evil Dead. this is basically the closest we get to MCU horror.
the movie itself while visually entertaining and certainly had its moments, ultimately, ends up being a filler movie.
Despite telling a smaller story, the primary purpose of the movie is to setup the next phase for MCU and Dr. Strange himself. It does so by mentioning a word that is sure to trigger a specific event with fans of the comics.
The movie does have many loose threads still open, so the overall placement of the movie is going to depend on what comes next. I think the biggest detractor of the movie is that it feels like episode 7-9 of WandaVision.
